Step Two: You Found A Therapist - Now What?

So you have chosen a therapist that you resonate with - what is next? You probably will receive an intake form that will need to be completed to the best of your ability before your next scheduled therapy session. The intention of this form is to collect basic contact information along with additional questions pertaining to areas such as health, occupation and social information. This information can provide a preliminary direction for you, and your therapist as you begin to navigate your journey while taking into consideration past, and present contexts of your story.

This process can seem intrusive and maybe even a little bit intimidating as you put pen to paper. You are left with your thoughts as you reflect on your life story, and certainly some information may be more difficult to recall than others. Please know that I empathize with you, and I have been there too.

I always like to thank my client when providing me with their completed intake form. I recognize the vulnerability that this form can require. Do me a favour? Thank yourself. You are brave and strong for taking this step towards your enhanced well-being.
